Accused of Shooting at Cops, Kenrick Longsworth Hendy Hands Himself Over to Police

Kenrick Longsworth Hendy

Twenty-six-year-old Kenrick Longsworth Hendy handed himself over to police this afternoon. Longsworth was wanted for allegedly shooting at police officers on Saturday morning near the Swing Bridge in downtown Belize City. The official police report states that forty-seven-year-old police officer Glenn Caliz was on Hydes Lane in a police mobile when he received information of an armed man on North Front Street. Caliz along with another police officer and B.D.F. soldier responded and saw Hendy who, according to police, pulled out a firearm and released three bullets in their direction; police also fired back. The police say that Hendy then jumped into the river and escaped.  His mother, Lavern “Antichrist” Longsworth is refuting police’s version of events. Longsworth says that her son did not know it was police officers since they were in an unmarked car.  She also says that Hendy did not jump into the river but rather fell. After Hendy turned himself in, Longsworth spoke to the media.

“He came with injuries, his ribs broke and I want them to take him to the hospital.”

Hipolito Novelo

“What is he saying because police are saying that he shot at them?”

Lavern Longsworth

He told my sister that nothing went on like that. As far as I know only my sister he spoke to. I have not spoken to him since Saturday.”

Hipolito Novelo

“It was an unmarked car I believe that the police officers were in. Did he know that it was police officers?”

Lavern Longsworth

“No he explained to my sister that he did not know who was in the vehicle.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Did he explain to your sister as well what was he doing with a gun?”

Lavern Longsworth

“He did not say anything about a gun as far as I know. He did not tell my sister about any gun.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Would you vouch for son?”

Lavern Longsworth

“All the time, I will always couch for him because he is my child. I would not swear for him because he is no saint.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Investigators believe that because they heard your son with a gun, they proceeded to try to arrest and that is when the shootout happen.”

Lavern Longsworth

“So why when I went to speak with Mr. Caliz he told me that he does not know? I think he was worrying because it was them who shot so many shots into the water and want to know where he was. That is why they were worrying as far as I know. As I came out to come sell my books, the lady told me that the police chased by son in the water. So I went there and I asked them what happened and he said he does not know. But I think he was worrying because he thought my son was dead.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Do you believe that your son was on his way to commit any crime with that gun?”

Lavern Longsworth

“I can’t say if he had any gun because I was not there. He left my house and wake up and went out. I do not know.”

Hipolito Novelo

“So he walked into the police station, I believe that he has a broken rib. Do you believe that the police officers would take advantage of him in the jail cell?”

Lavern Longsworth

“That is why I ask my Bryan Neal to assist me with him and bring him in and I was willing to bring him in. I just hope they don’t do him anything more than what he has on him.”

Hipolito Novelo

“He is facing charges of aggravated assult, I believe. Would you convince him or plea with him to plead guilty?”

Lavern Longsworth

“Never, no time.”

Hendy is facing charges of aggravated assault.
