Customers catch the cash at Courts

Story Picture
By now the sight of a nervous customer in a jump suit trying to grab some fast flying dollars is nothing new to Belizean television viewers. But today, as part of her coverage of the latest Courts promotion, News 5’s Jacqueline Woods herself ventured into the hot seat. Here’s what it looked like.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting

“For a year I have been doing this draw, and I’ve always wondered just how easy it is to catch the cash. Well today I’ve decided to put on the overalls, step into the box and try my luck.”

I can tell you, catching the cash is not as easy as it looks from outside the booth. But as challenging as the game is, today, seven Courts winners did it and won some money. The candidates had already won two thousand dollars each just for having their names drawn and now they were given the opportunity to catch an additional two thousand dollars in just one minute.

The lucky winners say they played the game with no special plan other than to try and catch as much cash as they can.

“Remijio were surprised at today’s winning?”

Remijio Mendez, $1,461.00 Courts Winner

“Yes. Because I was at least trying to get about one thousand.”

Jacqueline Woods

“Did you come with an specific plan?”

Remijio Mendez

“No. The fact is this is the first time I was playing, so I didn’t know how to play.”

The money won will be used in a number of ways, but one family felt particularly blessed. Heidy Usher, won a total of one thousand, three hundred and sixty four dollars. That money will be used to get her baby daughter, Ashley, the medical attention she desperately needs.

“With this money I want to help my baby.”

Jacqueline Woods

“What’s the problem with your baby?”

Heidy Usher

“She was in an accident. I’m going back to Guatemala to help her.”

“What’s the problem with her eye?”

Heidy Usher

“Exactly I don’t know, we’re going to check with the doctor in Guatemala.”

Courts Advertising and Promotions Manager, Anamarie Bennett, says they are encouraged by the favourable response the game has received.

“Just looking at it you want to get in there and grab some money for yourself. It creates excitement and customers really love it.”

Bennett says each year besides “Catch the Cash”, the store holds additional promotions for their customers. Bennett told us about an upcoming special for the World Cup Football Championship.

Anamarie Bennett

“For every time customers purchase for any purchase, they get a chance to dip into the barrel and in that barrel we have thirty-two countries participating in the World Cup. And if you country wins the World Cup, the one that you chose, at the end of June you’ll be able to win your purchase free. So that’s another exciting promotion we have running.”

Reporting for News 5, Jacqueline Woods.

Other lucky winners at today’s promotion include Ethelma Aleman who managed to catch one thousand, one hundred and eighty-nine dollars, Richard Pasipanodya who grabbed one thousand, two hundred and sixteen, Rosalind Gillett who caught one thousand, three hundred and sixty-two, Ada Howard who went home with one thousand and seventy-two and Soila Narvaez who walked off with one thousand, three hundred and fifty-four dollars. The next Catch The Cash Draw will take place in June.
