Man arrested in robbery of hot dog vendor
A Belize City hot dog vendor is recovering from a chop wound tonight after being attacked and robbed shortly before midnight on Tuesday. Twenty-three year old Jose Guillem told police that around eleven that night he was standing in front of his house on Cran Street selling hot dogs when two young men walked up to him and demanded free food. Guillem said no thank you, but one of the men he recognised as “Lelo” pulled out a machete and chopped him on the knee. As Guillem fell to the street, the duo then stole the change bag he was wearing around his waist and ran away. The food vendor was rushed to the K.H.M.H. where he was treated and released. Police have since charged eighteen-year-old Lionel Lamb with attempted robbery, aggravated assault and wounding. His accomplice has yet to be detained.
