Story Picture
Good evening, I’m James Adderley and this is the latest serving of Sports Monday. We took our cameras inside the Lewis Leslie amateur basketball competition at the City Centre Friday night, only to be greeted by a monster female opener featuring the defending champion B.E.L. Sparks in action against B.T.L. Hawks.

We join the ballgame in the opening moments as B.T.L.’s Audrey Brown comes up with an impressive save to Delcie Cummings who goes all the way for two. The Sparks respond with this individual effort from Enid Dakers that produces a nice baby jumper that’s good.

It’s more Enid Dakers when she goes to the glass for two more to give her team a 3-point lead. The defending champion would never look back. Tracy Garnett dishes to Rochelle Hemsley and the banker is good.

This time down court it’s Alashika Sterling dealing to number fourteen Tracey Garnett, who executes and would finish with 10 points, 7 rebounds. At the half, nevertheless Sparks boast and 18-7 lead.

In second half, it’s more of the same Claudette William finds Dakers with the bounce pass, which adds two more to the tally. In fact, there’s absolutely nobody on the Hawks team to contain Enid Dakers, who storms through the middle right here for an easy two. Dakers would finish with two doubles of 18 points, 13 boards in the 41-23 route.

Let’s now check in on the male under-twenty match up on the schedule as Caribbean Shores goes up against Belama Gators.

To get the scoreboard moving, Caribbean Shores starts off with a gift from Brandon Raymond to Chester Noralez, who maximises. Noralez then steps up through the paint for his team and its good for two points. Caribbean Shores continues to extend the lead and if Keith James could do this all the time, then he’s headed for the NBA.

The Gators try to come back as Raymond finds Bijon Griffith, who slashes for two points. Then Griffith finds himself unattended under the basket and he delivers two more points. He wasn’t finished because on this next offensive set, Griffith takes on the entire Caribbean Shores defence and at the half the deficit has been cut to three points.

In second half play, things take a turn for the worse for the Gators. And it’s Noralez who sets things up with this nice move through the middle. He would lead the Caribbean Shores with the game high 15 points. Chester Noralez then dishes to Trevor Meighan who makes it look easy.

Bijon Griffith nevertheless pulls Belama Gators to within three with this nice shot, but it wouldn’t be enough. The biggest moment of this ballgame might just be this rebound by Keith James, who sticks it back for two points.

Caribbean Shores goes on to record the 51-42 big W.

In football news, as you might have already noticed, we have no footage of game one of the Regent’s Cup championship series between Kulture Yabra and Fabro’s Juventus Stars of Orange Walk. Well, Yabra management banned Channel 5’s cameras after our broadcast of the Yabra/Juventus post-game fiasco two weeks ago at the M.C.C. Grounds. Nevertheless, Yabra took a one game lead in the best of three games series, winning 4-2 in sudden death penalty after regulation ended 1-1.

Game two moves inside the People’s Stadium Orange Walk this Sunday where Juventus will now play host to defending champions Kulture Yabra.

You know it folks, like we say it all the time, life is real. That’s it, thanks to our cameramen for their great work. Jah over all, I’m James Adderley.
