Arts Council to sponsor audio workshop

Story Picture
Whether you’re a fan of the theatre or just like a good show, you would agree that an important component of any production is the sound. But given the poor acoustics many of our auditoriums have, it’s a factor that has affected more than one activity to grace the stage. With that in mind, next week the Belize Arts Council is sponsoring an audio workshop for theatre technicians and teachers preparing for the upcoming Children’s Festival of Arts. Rudy Cruz, technical co-ordinator at the Arts Council, is spearheading the two-hour event.

“It is important for us because of the eleven trained technicians, we currently have only three who can fully manage the audio system. So we’re trying to include teachers as well so they could an understanding as well of what is happening behind the scenes and help to better prepare their children to stage the Children’s Festival of Arts.”

“Tell us how important is audio in a production, especially the Children’s Festival of Arts.”

Rudy Cruz

“The children’s festival if very difficult dealing with audio, due to the mere fact that they’re staging it at the Parish Hall and they have poor acoustics. The audience is very noisy at times, so we’re trying new measures to minimise that…one such measure is keeping the children performing from entering back into the auditorium.”

If you’re interested in attending the audio workshop, you are asked to call Rudy Cruz at 02-72110 to register. The course begins on Tuesday night at 7:30 at the Macmillan Brother’s building on Regent Street in Belize City. Participation is free.
