Poet releases new collection
Jim Arnold has been writing poems since 1982 and this week the Belizean artist stopped by News 5 to promote his latest work. “Just For You” is a compilation of Creole and English poems written about a number of issues affecting society. Arnold says it’s been a while since his first publication, but he promises his second effort is just as good.
(Jim reading poem “Da Weh Yu Proud Of)
Da weh yu proud of?
Your good job you say?
Money in the bank for a rainy day
Then sickness arrives with something strange
Your health comes first, now where’s your change?
Da weh yu proud of?
Your house and lot
The jewels yu got
The friends you keep
Or with who yu sleep?
Jim Arnold, Poet
“I was just waiting for the right moment, and I believe now is the time. Other poets have had their chance to come out on the scene as well. And here is a point where the people, the populace as well could really think, well who has the best quality poems. Because it’s not just to put words into formation, but it’s the meaning behind each and everyone of the poetry.”
Yu kontry, yu flag
Yu national anthem?
Now wi talking!
For that is something
To be proud of
For that is ambition for our nation
Da weh yu proud of? yu cellular?
Arnold says “Just For You” will be available at bookstores within the next two weeks. Price: eight dollars.
