Min. of Transport says bus price hikes are illegal
While commuters and other bus riders across the country shelled out more today to get around, the Ministry of Transport has called for a review of the price hikes. According to a press release issued late this evening, a review of the rates is taking place as apparently the new prices violate the terms and conditions of the road service permits of the bus owners. The release goes on to state that a letter has been sent to all bus operators to comply with the maximum rates as stated in the permits. But when News 5 contacted David Novelo of Northern Transport Limited tonight, he told us that this announcement must be an error because as far as he knows, the new rates has the approval of the Government of Belize. We will have more details of this situation in tomorrow’s newscast.
