Belize/Guatemala meeting postponed

Also in news from across the border, on Sunday, delegations from Belize and Guatemala met with O.A.S. facilitators Sir Shridath Ramphal and Paul Reichler to discuss the border dispute negotiation process. While we understand that additional information was requested from both sides by the facilitators, we were unable to speak with officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as to exactly what kind of information was needed. The negotiating teams were due to present their recommendations for a peaceful settlement of the border issue later this month, but because Secretary General Cesar Gaviria is unable to attend the meeting, it has now been postponed for a date yet to be announced. Accompanying P.M. Musa in Guatemala was Foreign Affairs Minister Assad Shoman and Ambassador Fred Martinez. Guatemalan President Alfonso Portillo headed the Guatemalan delegation.
