Rotaract hosts night of magic

Story Picture
However old we are, the presence of a magician always brings out the child in us. Fredrix, a professional magician with twenty years of experience from the U.S.A., is in Belize courtesy of Rotary International for two benefit shows. News 5 caught up with Fredrix earlier this week.

Fredrix, Magician

“First of all, it’s a lot of fun. It’s magic, but it’s also entertaining, a lot of humour, interaction. There will be a lot of audience participation, so I will be picking on the audience.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“Is there a particular section of the show for children, adults of do you combine your acts?”

Fredrix

“The show is a family oriented show, there’s nothing really off-colour in it. There’ll be some fun remarks, but the children will enjoy it also. There’ll be some colour, some fast moving and then there’s a lot of jokes, so it will be a well-balanced evening. It will be a nice family night, probably geared more towards young adults than children, because they told me that there wouldn’t be a whole lot of children here.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“What is it that people love about magic and illusion?”

Fredrix

“I think magic and illusion is the same as good comedy, it’s surprise. It baffles the senses.”

Laura Esquivel, President, Rotaractors

“The main purpose for the fundraising is because Belize has been chosen this year as the host for the conference for Rotaracts of District 4240 and 4250. That includes all the countries from Belize all the way down to Panama. So the majority of the funds will go towards funding this event, which we hope to bring in two hundred Central Americans into Belize the beginning of May.

We have decided that any monies that are left over from any of our fundraising for this conference will go towards the National Organisation for the Prevention of Child Abuse. And they will also be giving a talk to us during the conference so that the Rotaractors who are attending will know what our children charity is and will probably try to help us help out our NOPCA here in Belize.”

The shows take place on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 at the Biltmore. Tickets can be bought from Rotaractors, the Biltmore Plaza or at the door.
