Shooting Victim’s Family Wants Answers
On Monday, we reported on the shooting of twenty-one-year-old Nathaniel Lockwood of Sand Hill. He was driving his motorcycle carrying a passenger when a vehicle pursued him and the driver shot him several times in Gardenia Village. Lockwood is still in the hospital awaiting surgery. His mother called the media to say that the police have been slow in offering help. Perla Augustine told us that she doesn’t know what transpired in the early hours of Sunday morning when her son was attacked – and the only account they have heard is from the passenger. And so she has no idea if her son was the intended target of the shooting. Augustine says she needs answers.
Pearla Augustine, Mother of Shooting Victim
“I need answers, you know. I need to know what really happened to my son. Nobody is telling me anything and I need answers because my son is an innocent young man and he is lying up there on his back, for what? I am hurt. I need to know who did this to my son and I am begging the police department to please do their job. My son is an outgoing young man and anybody who knows him know that he is nobody to be giving trouble. I didn’t raise my son that way. So, I am begging the public, anybody who knows something or saw something, please help us. We need to get down to the bottom of the truth. Things are not adding up and we need to get to the bottom of what is going on. Right now he is stable. He is talking. He got four [shots] in his back, one each in both of his legs and now he needs to take an operation up here. It is one thousand five hundred dollars just for an operation alone and we don’t know how the much the doctor will charge. So, we are just praying and hoping for the best that everything will go through for us.”
The family is doing a barbecue on Saturday from eight in the morning at the Sand Hill Junction to raise funds for Lockwood’s medical bills. If you’d like to assist the family, you can call Augustine at 666-9541.
