Cabinet Slams Johnny for Sensimilla Proposal
Opposition Leader John Briceño, in his weekly message, proposed the legalization of marijuana in Belize, following a similar endorsement in Canada recently. In the recorded address, the P.U.P. leader discussed the development of an industry which would see marijuana being traded locally and internationally as an export commodity. That suggestion doesn’t sit well with government and during today’s cabinet meeting, the statement was decried as, “a hurry-come idea.” The release from the Barrow Administration goes on to say that the notion of exporting marijuana to the United States would signify a very serious criminal offense of illegal drug trafficking under U.S. federal law. The position taken by Briceno is criticized as, “simplistic, ignorant and downright dangerous.” Government also states that should America decide to legalize marijuana production, it will cultivate its own cannabis and will thereby use its comparative technological and engineering advantages. It concludes by saying that government completely rejects the hasty proposal.
