Churches plan “Hundred Man March”

Story Picture
Since we don’t have a million people, let alone a million men, the Assemblies of God churches in Belize have decided to call it the “Hundreds Men March”. Patterned after the Million Man March concept pioneered by Louis Farrakhan in the U.S., the event is the first of its kind for Belize. It is designed to have men retake their roles of responsible leadership in their families and communities. According to Louis Thompson, co-ordinator of the march, the event begins on Saturday morning at eight from the airport junction in Ladyville.

Louis Thompson, March Co-ordinator

“The Lord has laid it on our hearts that we should have this event comes April thirteenth, which is this Saturday. The thing that we need to achieve in this march is the men to come back to the forefront of this nation. It’s been too long that we have been running away and not holding up to our responsibilities. The social decay derives from a lot of things in this nation, but one of the main thing is the lack of men at the head of their house as God has ordained for them to be. We are saying to the wider community…this is a hundred man march, we are saying to the community we are making a difference. We are reaching out to men to come back and we could make a difference. Consequently, if men come back to where they should be, women could go ahead and fulfil their roles that God has ordained for them to do.

When this march is over…this march is just a starting point, we have been in consultation with the Council of Churches and they have other events that will be coming up after this march. In this march, it will be preceded by praise and worship and the spirit of the Lord will be so much on this march that people will be touched. Men will be empowered in this march to go back where they come from and make a positive difference.”

If you’d like to attend the Hundreds Men’s March and you live on the north side of the city, transportation will leave the Pallotti junction at 6:30 a.m. For south side residents the bus leaves the Pound Yard Bridge at the same time. The march culminates with a revival at the Battlefield Park featuring inspirational speeches by various religious leaders.
