B.P.P. Said ‘Legalize It’ from Years Ago

Patrick Rogers

But today, the Belize Progressive Party said they’ve been championing to legalize marijuana long before Briceño announced his proposal.  The B.P.P. said that while they welcome the Opposition Leader’s support, they believe that some of the grounds on which he made his argument were not the best reasons. In fact, the B.P.P. so much as said that political games may be behind Briceño’s recent pronouncement. Here’s how B.P.P. leader Patrick Rogers puts it.

Patrick Rogers, Leader, B.P.P.

“We will always be a poor beggar nation even if we legalize marijuana and collect revenues from it like weh the Opposition Leader di try play politics with this issue we di champion from forever. To legalize this marijuana not for the reasons he said, but for other reasons that have more social impact on our people. Yes, the revenues will be there – that dah the gravy but that that dah nuh the real reason why we should be legalizing marijuana. The tax regime change is what we want to hear the Opposition Leader buying into. Yes, he picked up that and that is the one of the issues that we champion and one of the mainstream parties picked up and we thank God for that. Because we feel it contributes to our democracy by championing issues for years until they pick it up. But when they do pick it up and they play games with it, we have to call them out for it.”

The debate on this is surely to continue and we’ll keep following it.
