P.U.P. Standard Bearer for the Port Ready to Take On U.D.P. Candidate

Gilroy Usher Sr.

Former City Councillor Phillip Willoughby and former Deputy Mayor Dean Samuels also have their hats in the ring as does one A.C. Castillo for the November fourth convention.  Today, P.U.P. Standard bearer for Port Loyola, Gilroy Usher Senior, chimed in on the fight between the U.D.P. candidates. He says he is confident that he’ll take down any of them whenever the general election is called.  In the last election, Usher fell short of winning the division by less than eighty votes.

“I do not want to get into the U.D.P. convention, but I will say that I have done the work in Port Loyola division and therefore I am prepared for whoever is their standard bearer. I have no fear. I have done the work over the years with cleanup campaign, back to school drive, events for Christmas; different assistance with people in the neighbourhood. I’ve also held demonstrations for housing; I’ve held demonstrations for jobs. So whatever the case is, Gilroy Usher has been on the line for the people. So I consider myself as the underdog in Port Loyola; I am not taking anything for granted, but at the same time, I am fully prepared for whoever is the standard bearer for the Port Loyola Division. I believe that with the work that I have done in the area; the people will give me that support. And that support has been building over the years because remember the last general elections, I lost by seventy-three votes and I have done a lot more work since then and I realize the areas where I was short in the 2015 election. So we have taken advantage of the time now to close up all those loopholes to makes sure that when the polls are opened this time around, Gilroy Usher will be the new area rep for the Port Loyola Division.”

“But some may say that this it is a different beast that you’ll go against. It won’t be Minister Boots Martinez that you’ll be competing against; it will be a fresh new face.”

Gilroy Usher Sr.

“No. They all representing the same party that is responsible for all the neglect and suffering in this division.  For the last ten years, regardless of which of them, they have made no effort to secure land for the people in Port; they have made no effort to secure proper housing for the people of Port. Jobs is a major thing in Port; crime, single mothers need assistance. Those people have been absent. The only reason you see them in Port now is because they are looking for an opportunity to advance a political career; but outside of that, they would never have been in Port so they do not have that commitment.”
