2 Accused Killers Freed

Two men charged with murder were freed by Supreme Court Justice Colin Williams today. They are twenty-five-year-old Christopher Sosa and thirty-five-year-old Ashton Anderson. Both men had been charged for the 2011 murder of fifty-three-year-old taxi driver, Romel Palacio Senior.  The crown’s two main witnesses refused to testify before the courts which led Crown Counsel Kileru Awich to enter a nolle prosequi, abandoning the case.  So tonight, the two accused men believed to have gunned down Palacio Senior on June nineteen, 2011 are free. On that morning of the murder, two armed men barged into a Belize City residence on J.R. Street and shot Palacio Senior multiple times on the head, hands and leg. He died a few days later. It was Father’s Day and the gunmen were said to be looking to murder Romel Palacio Junior but instead, killed his father.  Sosa and Anderson were originally charged with attempted murder, but after Palacio Senior died; their charges were upgraded to murder. It is believed that the gunmen were after Palacio Junior because he was a key witness in a murder trial against brothers, Maurice and Emory Felix, who were accused with the murder of Mitchum Heredia in 2006.  Palacio Junior was later found dead in a shallow grave between miles eleven and twelve on the George Price highway on January, thirty-first 2013. On May 2014, the Felix brothers were set free due to a mistrial. Anderson and Sosa were represented by Attorney Oscar Selgado.
