Hemp Hemp Hooray, an Alternative to Marijuana Legalization?

While all is not lost in the legalization debate, PM Barrow says that the Ministry of Agriculture is looking into the possibility of establishing a hemp industry for the export market. The Office of the Attorney General, says the PM, is drafting the necessary pieces of law to accompany the proposal.

“There is a perfectly sound alternative to this lunatic notion of an internationally illegal marijuana industry and it is an internationally legal hemp industry using the same cannabis plant from which marijuana comes but without the degree of this THC ingredient that is mind altering and that is the trigger for outlawing of marijuana.  And we are well on the way to creating just such an industry, the Ministry of Agriculture has been meeting with and preparing farmers for the coming of this brand new day and the Attorney General is drafting the necessary legislation using, as I understand it, Canadian and Australian models.  That is our sane, effective response to this Looney Tunes proposal of legalizing marijuana.”
