Infrastructure Works Will See Construction of Caracol Road and Airport Link Road
Road works and maintenance are a huge part of the infrastructure development taking place across the country. A number of projects underway and several others are set to commence by year’s end. Those include the Airport Link Road which will connect the Philip Goldson and George Price highways between Ladyville and the Eight Miles Community, respectively. They also comprise the replacement of the Haulover Bridge and the reconstruction of a road from Corozal Town to Sarteneja Village in the north.
Prime Minister Dean Barrow
“Infrastructure-wise, the Airport Link Road construction, including the bridge to facilitate the traffic bypass from PGIA to eight miles on the George Price Highway is well underway. The huge Coastal Road project is now concluding its feasibility study and moves to design stage before going out to construction. And for Caracol, that other mega-million piece of infrastructure, the design is done and the supervision consultants just about chosen and the selection of construction contractor and start of the physical works will happen no later than the end of this year. Remember that Caracol, the total funding is something like ninety million U.S. dollars broken up between OFIID and the Kuwaiti Fund and the Coastal Road is something like eighty million U.S. dollars being provided by the British government. Regarding the ongoing rebuilding of the Hummingbird Highway, a contract has been awarded for the replacement of bridges and improvement of road-widening works which together constitutes the last remaining section of the highway’s reconstruction. The entirety of this project will be completed by the third quarter of next year.”
