Man killed during fight over football game
An argument over a football game was the apparent motive for a murder in the Orange Walk District on Saturday. According to police, around eight that night Pedro Gonzalez Jr. and Sylvino Blanco, both residents of Douglas Village, got into a fight over a game. Blanco says he thought the incident was over when Gonzalez left the area, but a short time later Pedro Gonzalez Sr. showed up at his front door with a machete in his hand. Blanco picked up his rifle, and claiming self-defence, shot the elder Gonzalez in the chest. Gonzalez was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police have since detained forty-three year old Sylvino Blanco pending a murder charge.
