Shots Fired During Convention
Shots were fired as the convention was being held on Sunday. In an effort to intervene in an altercation between two rival gangs, a police officer fired warning shots in the air. No one was injured, but tensions were diffused. Here is how the Deputy Commissioner Chester Williams explained what transpired.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police (Operations)
“There was an altercation between two rival groups. Apparently one group was walking down Fabers Road when they came under attack by the other group. At the same time, a police officer was coming in the area and tried to separate them, but the other group was adamant that they wanted to charge at the other one. So it was the police officer who took out his issued firearm and discharged couple warning shots in the area to be able to disperse the crowd. So it was not any shooting per say where persons were out there targeting each other with firearms, no.”
