A Benefit Concert to Build the First Ever Music School in Belize
This Saturday, the Stann Creek Ecumenical High School is hosting a benefit concert in Dangriga to raise funds to build a first ever music school for the country. The music school will encompass a museum that will feature musical legends; a state-of-the-art recording studio for artists and musician to make a living off of their talent. It will also be a community music school that will focus on the students and artists in the south initially, before it expands to incorporate the singers from across the country. The school will teach all genres of music, but will start with the Garifuna, then Creole and the others. The plans for the school started last year, during a visit from Soca artist Machel Montano, who touched down at the P.G.I.A. today along with Tanya Stephens and Aurelio Martinez and are among the artists that will be performing this weekend. It’s a dream come true, says Principal Jeremy Cayetano.
