Cyclist killed during hit and run on the Northern Highway

Story PictureA thirty-eight year old man was killed during a traffic accident on the Northern Highway. The man left his home to make a purchase at a shop, and it was during the return trip home, he met his death. The man was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a pick-up truck on Saturday night and died on the spot. Up to news time, Ladyville police are still trying to locate the driver of a red Ford pick-up truck that was involved in the fatal hit and run. News Five found out that the speeding vehicle knocked Roldan Trapp off his bike between miles eleven and twelve shortly before nine that night.

Inspector Calbert Flowers, O.C., Ladyville Police Station
“This cyclist was knocked down from behind by a vehicle. Further investigations revealed that the vehicle involved was a red Ford Ranger pickup truck. As a result, yesterday the police intercepted a vehicle fitting the description, which we have parked at our compound at this moment. We still have not made contact with the driver at this time. However, we had several eyewitnesses on the scene who are cooperating with us. The victim is one, Roldan Trapp, a resident of Los Lagos Village.”

“So where was the vehicle intercepted?”

Inspector Calbert Flowers
“The vehicle, like I said it was a hit and run, the vehicle fled the scene. We went in search of the vehicle and we did not find the vehicle. Apparently after this accident the driver fled the scene and apparently they lost control further up the road and we did not locate the vehicle until yesterday when a tow truck company was hired to pull in this vehicle. The police officers in Ladyville intercepted that tow truck vehicle and we now have the truck.”

Trapp was heading towards Belize City when he was hit from behind by the red truck, which was travelling in the same direction. Trapps’ brother, Juldani Mas, told News Five that he had just seen him minutes before he was killed.

Voice of Juldani Mas, Brother of Deceased
