2 Chinese women beaten in hold-up
Two Chinese women were beaten and robbed this morning in what has become an all too familiar scenario in the city. The latest incident took place around 11:45 at Shung Loong, a grocery shop at eighty-seven Vernon Street. The women, twenty-two year old Su Nong Chen and fifty-five year old Tang Gin Lan, told police that they were inside the shop when three dark complexioned men pulled up on bicycles. It is reported that one of the trio pulled out a gun and demanded that the women open the shop’s burglar bar door. Police say that after the shopkeepers let the men inside, the assailants then demanded money. When the cash was not forthcoming, the man with the weapon started beating the women over their heads, while his accomplices found the cash drawer. The robbers then rode off on their bikes with an undisclosed amount of cash. At this time, police have no suspects.
