Courts donates desks to schools hit by Iris

Story Picture
Courts Belize Limited made good on its promises and today handed over twenty-five thousand dollars worth of classroom furniture to administrators of a number of southern schools hit hard by Hurricane Iris. The two hundred and thirty-one student chair/desks and fifteen sets of teachers’ desks and chairs will be used in schools in Medina Bank, Monkey River, Laguna and Na Luum Ca, as well as the Toledo Centre for Employment Training. Making the presentation for Courts was advertising and promotions manager Anamarie Bennett.

“We decided when the hurricane struck in October of last year that we needed to do something substantial to assist, cause we know the devastation was major down south. We looked at all the organisations we were getting assistance and we felt that education needed some assistance. The schools, from what we understand, and we looked at a detailed evaluation that was presented to us by the Ministry of Education. Dr. Cecil Reneau and Mrs. El Amin worked hard to get those prepared for us. It’s a pity we couldn’t help all the schools, but the schools that were singled out, we felt, were really needy of it. Education for us is one of the key to the development of the country and we hope that the furniture will be used to enhance those.”

The furniture was transported by the Ministry of Works.
