Two wounded in Belize City ride-by
Bloodstains still mark the spot where one of two young men fell after they were shot this afternoon. According to police, the youths, identified as twenty-two year old Trevor Smith and nineteen year old Eugene Sterling, were standing in front of Julie’s store on Sarstoon Street when they were shot by two gunmen on bicycles. Smith was hit in his shoulder while Sterling took a bullet in his chest. When News 5 arrived on the scene shortly after the incident, residents of the area were still in shock.

Police immediately launched a search of the area since street sources had informed them that the gunmen were headed for the K.H.M.H. to finish the job. But things were quiet at the emergency ward as the injured men were given medical treatment. Police circling the Central American Boulevard were taking no chances and stopped to search at least one car.
Tonight, the department is looking for a man they believe can aid in their investigations: Kevin Dawson, also known as Possum. According to hospital officials, tonight both Sterling and Smith are in a stable condition. In case any of these names strike a cord of familiarity, viewers may recall that in mid February, Smith was wanted by police in connection with a shooting at the basketball court at the corner of Vernon and Sittee Streets. Meanwhile, today’s prime suspect, Possum, is also wanted for a shooting that took place on Wednesday on Mopan Street.
