2-year-old drowns in Hopkins
This morning tragedy struck Hopkins Village as that community lost one of its very young residents. Dangriga police say around ten-thirty this morning two-year-old Rondeen Nunez was playing in her yard when her mother, twenty-four year old Rosella Lopez, left her daughter’s side to go inside and check on some fish frying in the kitchen. It was at that time, according to Lopez, that the child left the yard to go by the sea where her grandparents were taking a swim. But when Nunez reached the shore, she apparently fell into the sea and went under. Authorities say the child was quickly retrieved, but had already inhaled too much water. She was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital, but died on the way.
