Two injured in break-in/assault
A young Chinese woman and her cousin were severely beaten by a man who broke into their home early Sunday morning. The incident took place at number sixteen Orange Street in Belize City. Sixteen-year-old Seng Yen and her cousin, twenty-eight year old Zhu Juan Chen were sleeping downstairs in the house. Seng told police she was suddenly awakened by a noise coming from inside the bathroom. But before she could move, a man quickly walked into the bedroom and forcibly removed them from their beds. According to Seng, the man demanded money and then proceeded to beat her. He then took a rum bottle and smashed it on Zhu’s head. Seng says they both started screaming for help and that’s when the man ran away. Zhu, who suffered cuts to his face, left ear and neck, has since been released from the hospital, while Seng remains at Belize Medical Associates. Investigations reveal the man gained access into the building through a downstairs window. At this time, police say they have no suspect.
