Belize City Barber Shot and Killed on Nineteenth Weekend

Eric Staine

Twenty-one-year-old Eric Staine was shot and killed on Sunday night in the vicinity of Krooman Road near the George Price Highway.  The young barber lost his life in a hail of bullets, before being dumped on the roadside.  The incident, according to police, happened around ten p.m.  When they responded to the scene of the shooting, they observed Staine’s motionless body.  Despite having viewed footage from surveillance cameras in the area, investigators are stumped as to a motive for the deadly incident.  Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino told the media this morning that they have limited information on the latest murder in the Old Capital.

“CIB personnel visited the K.H.M.H. where they encountered Eric Staine, a twenty-one-year-old barber of a North Front Street address.  He was suffering from several gunshot wounds to the body and he succumbed to those injuries at about 10:05 p.m.  From what police know, Mr. Staine was, well police responded to shots being fired on the George Price Highway at the corner of Krooman Road.  Upon arriving there, police discovered Mr. Staine’s body.  He was transported to the K.H.M.H. and he, of course, died of those injuries.  We have reviewed cameras in the area and we have some information and the investigation is ongoing.”

“Sir, we are told that an SUV and a motorcycle were seen by residents leaving the area after the shots were fired.  Would you be able to confirm any of that at this point?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“We are looking into that, yes.”

Reporter

“Was Mr. Staine known to have any gang affiliation or have you all been able to find any reason or any motive at this time?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“No motive at this time.  We are investigating certain information that we have and the investigation is continuing at this time.”
