Ronald Flowers sentenced for robbing Justice of the Peace
A nineteen year old robber was extensively wounded and beaten when his partner in crime left him hanging. When Ronald Flowers appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret McKenzie, he pleaded guilty to Attempted Robbery and was sentenced to five years behind bars. The armed hold up occurred at Justice of the Peace, Modesto Madrill’s grocery shop. According to Madrill, a man went into the shop and ordered a bottle of homemade wine on the night of April twenty-eighth. But when Madrill went to get the wine, Flowers entered and forced his way behind the counter, demanding money. The man, who ordered the wine, then pointed a gun at Madrill. But the J.P. didn’t give in; instead he grabbed Flowers and a struggle ensued. Flowers ordered his partner to shoot Madrill, but the weapon jammed and the gunman fled the scene. Alone and unarmed, Flowers was then at the mercy of Madrill, who yelled for his son to help him. Madrill managed to grab his machete and chop Flowers before his son and son-in-law arrived and helped him subdue the attacker. They kept Flowers detained until the police arrived. The gunman is still at large.
