Teachers’ union prepares for protest
When the Prime Minister returns to Belize later this week, he will have one more item to add to his already crowded agenda of concerns. The Belize National Teachers Union, unhappy with the lack of progress on contract negotiations with government, has scheduled a number of demonstrations to show their displeasure. According to a B.N.T.U. press release, government has dragged its feet on negotiations for over a year and has shown no inclination to respond positively to the union’s proposals. The first demonstration by teachers and public officers is scheduled for Friday in Corozal with a national protest in Belmopan on Tuesday. The views of the B.N.T.U. will be articulated to the media tomorrow afternoon at a press conference.
