Romac’s robbed again; thieves still at large
For the second time in as many weeks, a thief or thieves have robbed downtown supermarket Romac’s. According to a spokesman for the store, sometime during Thursday night’s rainstorm, persons intent on robbery attempted to get into the building by breaking a lock on the back door. But it appears the lock was doing its job and the thieves then resorted to creating a small opening, which one of them used to squeeze through. Because of the size of the hole, it is now suspected that a small person or a child got into the store and attacked an office door. We understand that while they broke that lock, the robbers escaped with only a few bottles of alcohol. The store does have a security guard, but apparently, the commotion went unnoticed because of the noise created by the bad weather. Employees arriving for work realised there had been break-in when they found the tampered lock. Romac’s was closed for about an hour this morning to assess the damages and file a police report. The authorities do not believe this robbery and the previous one are related.
Weather might have also been a factor in another break-in on Thursday night, this time at the offices of SPEAR on Freetown Road. According to police, employees have reported a computer, printer, scanner, shredder, and other paraphernalia stolen. Up to news time tonight, no suspects have been detained in either of these robberies.
