Meanwhile across town, pre-schoolers on parade ended their walk at Memorial Park. That’s where Jacqueline Woods found them performing for their parents.

The pre-schoolers, dressed in their brightly coloured Children’s Day T-shirts, paraded from the Bliss Institute to the Memorial Park. The boys and girls were not only celebrating their day, but the march officially marks the opening of Child Stimulation Month.
Allana Gillett, Education Officer, Pre-school Unit
“Well the idea behind this parade is to bring people’s attention to child stimulation month. It’s to make people realise how important it is to stimulate the child before the child gets to primary school.”
Gwendolyn Jones, Prin., Port Loyola Community Pre-school
“We are getting them excited, we started them off with a church service day before yesterday and really talk to them about stimulation month. It’s a learning experience at the pre-school.”
It did not rain and the cool breeze made the children’s outing an enjoyable walk. Education Officer in the Pre-school Unit, Allana Gillett, says they have been equally impressed by the large number of parents who took the time out to spend the day with their kids.

“It’s a lot, so we’re very happy to see all the children are out today. I think what happen is that today is also children’s day, so the parents have brought the children out. It’s much easier getting in a parade, having entertainment and then going home. I’d like to point out that this parade is happening country-wide, the entire country is celebrating children’s day and opening child stimulation month with all pre-school centres having a parade.”
The parade is a joint effort between the Pre-school Unit, principals and teachers. This year, twenty-six Belize City pre-schools took part in the annual activity.

“We have been working hard preparing our little banners stating different messages.”

“What the message is the pre-school sending out?”
Yvette Nicholas
“Always make your good better and your better best.”
At the Memorial Park, the children entertained their parents with varied performances before heading home to enjoy the rest of the day. Jacqueline Woods, Reporting for News 5.
