Choral Society puts up money for music

It’s not the first time that a primary school has received musical instruments, but this morning’s donation to the Salvation Army Primary School was special. Thanks to the House of Culture and the Belize Choral Society, the school will now field a ten-member recorder group. The budding musicians, all students from the middle division, received their flutes from the Musical Co-ordinator at the House of Culture, Jason Guerrero. School principal, Barbara Lino says for some time they have been trying to establish a music programme but it did not materialise because of a lack of resources.

“We’ve always wanted to start up a programme like this, but due to finance we were unable to do it. And therefore in January when Miss Valerie Lovell called me and put the proposition to me, I grabbed I with open arms because it would be something beneficial for our children. Through music children excel, and we want this programme to get on its foot.”

Besides the instruments, the school received a cheque for one thousand, two hundred dollars. The presentation was made by treasurer of the Belize Choral Society, Rose Musa. The money will be used to pay for the instruments and fund a year of recorder lessons for the children.
