Artlchemist Exhibition Launches at the Mexican Institute

At this time at the Mexican Institute in Belize City, an exhibition is officially opening. This exhibit will showcase a wide collection of artwork from a pool of seven artists from across the country. Each artist is presenting his or her technique, the use of colours, textures and shapes to inspire its viewers. According to the group, dubbed ART-chemists, the exhibition is a visual expression of their work with every painting and quilt or textile, representing a story. Artists Yaoling Lee and Masana, who are featured in the exhibition, say that it explores unknown feelings and the little things that bring joy to life experiences.

“For this show I have about twelve outdoor paintings. I put my bushy box, my palette, box right outside. And it’s a small scale canvas and it’s about the landscape of Belize. The last one I did it like two weeks ago; it was right outside of the Mexican Institute in the night and I did a painting about the reflection of the sea and the reflection from the Princess Hotel. I draw what I feel and what I see. Not necessarily how I see, but how I feel. There’s just that little sparkly that inspires me.”

“What you are going to be witnessing is the end of year tip off. You will be witnessing seven different artists from seven different experiences and we are going to come together as one and we are going to show you exactly what art is. We want to share our experiences with you and basically to show you what we do. I have two pieces. I am actually a fabric artist and a jewellery designer as you know from Facebook, Masani Live, and what I did is as a woman of colour, I used a lot of African symbols and a lot of colours as far as the African cloth. And what I love about the other artists is that they also use colour so we come together as one, like Creole.”

The other artists are: Valerie Penner, Ilona Smiling, Keion George Griffith, German Raul Figueroa and Terryl Godoy.
