Verdict in Meerabux case comes on Wednesday

Court watchers won’t have to wait until Thursday for courtroom drama, as on Wednesday morning Justice Christopher Blackman will issue his long awaited decision in the constitutional application of former Supreme Court judge George Meerabux. Meerabux, removed from office on the advice of the Belize Advisory Council for corrupt behaviour, maintains that the council acted unfairly and in contravention of natural justice. The hearing last month was marked by several controversies, including a judicial reprimand for Attorney General Godfrey Smith and Justice Blackman’s surprise decision to recuse himself from the case…quickly followed by his equally surprising decision to change his mind.
