Sixteen injured in head-on collision in the north
In other unfortunate news involving asphalt, tonight sixteen people are recovering from injuries sustained during a traffic accident on Sunday. According to police, just after 10:00, a red pick-up truck being driven at the time by Hermild Vasquez of Orange Walk Town collided head on with a small car. The truck was carrying ten people while the car contained driver Dr. Arden Usher of Belize City and six others inside. All sixteen people suffered head or body injuries. At news time tonight hospital authorities tell News 5 that one of the victims has been transferred to the Belize Medical Associates for neurosurgical treatment while four others, including two small children, one with severe injuries to the skull, have been admitted to ward at the K.H.M.H. Viewers should note that according to officials at the Transport Department, it is an offence to carry passengers in the back of a truck that does not have affixed seating accommodations. The offence carries ticket penalties and possible court action, not to mention the possibility of getting seriously hurt in an accident.
