Suspected Drug Plane Hovers over San Estevan, Abandoned in Chetumal

A suspected drug plan was attempting to land somewhere in San Estevan Village sometime around two o’clock this morning. Reports are that Orange Walk police disrupted the landing and the aircraft left after hovering between San Estevan and Progresso in northern Belize.  Information to News Five is that police learnt about the landing and so they added additional resources to the police presence in the area. The aircraft seemingly got wind of authorities near the landing site and shortly after headed over the border. According to an online news source in Chetumal, airport control tower authorities there got a distress call around three-twenty this morning. The occupants of the aircraft reportedly informed the airport that the aircraft had malfunctioned. The aircraft flew over to the airport in Chetumal where it landed and was subsequently abandoned.  Ocho Columnas reports that sources from the airport told them that after the plane landed, “pilots and crew left the site quickly only carrying one suitcase.”  In a subsequent report, Ocho Culmnas says that there were lights placed around a landing road in Belize, but the aircraft never touched down here. The site says that the airplane has since been seized, but makes no report of any detentions related to the cargo. From the information we gathered from local authorities, no one was found in the area and that nothing was discovered. Other online reports however are reporting that a vehicle believed to be connected to the aircraft has since been impounded. There have been other plane landings in the area.
