Therese Rath wins Audubon award

Story Picture
You won’t always see her marching on the picket lines or starring on the talk show circuit, but for nearly twenty years Therese Bowman Rath has laboured diligently on the front lines of the environmental movement. On Saturday, her efforts were officially recognised when she was honoured with the James A. Waight Conservation Award. The award, bestowed annually by the Belize Audubon Society, specifically recognised her efforts to establish and expand the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, as well as her key role in transforming Audubon from a small group of volunteers into a professionally staffed organisation with an ambitious national agenda. Rath’s award was presented by John Waight Junior, grandson of the conservation pioneer James A. Waight.
