Scout Association recruits teachers as leaders

With the wave of violence plaguing city streets, several organisations are trying to come up with ideas to get the Belizean youths to do something constructive. This week, the Scout Association of Belize, is inviting young persons to join their movement and become part of the solution. The action is just one of many planned for Scout Week, being observed from February seventeenth to the twenty-third. National Scout Association Executive, Hilberto Riverol, says while there is a need to strengthen their leadership and increase membership, they have decided to focus on the challenges facing the community.

“We feel that if we can make scouting available to each and every young person of this nation, we will be making a big impact in our society. And thus we feel that the theme, “Scouting for All” is just suitable for this occasion.”

Throughout the week, scouts will be participating in several community service projects in the districts. According to Riverol, the Ministry of Education has approved a programme to launch scouting in the primary schools, and the association is using the opportunity to recruit teachers as scout leaders. To date, the National Scout Association has a membership of eight hundred.
