George Street residents vandalised
When George Street residents got up this morning, a number of them could not go to work in their vehicles. No, there was not a traffic jam in the area and the cars were not experiencing any mechanical problems, instead, someone had taken a sharp object and slashed the vehicles’ tyres. When News 5 arrived on the scene, some of the owners had already begun to repair the damage.

It is not the first time that residents of the area have been vandalised. However, they say the problem has much gotten worse. Ashword Baizar, who was busy working on his car, says that this morning he was awaken by a loud noise.
Ashword Baizar
“About twenty minutes to four this morning, a heard a sound outside, as though maybe the vat or something burst. When I came outside, due to the barking of the dogs, I saw just a shadow running. I couldn’t identify the person, but he had a dog with him, a white pitbull.”
Baizar says he was not aware of what was happening until he heard air being let out of his tires.

“The first one I observed was the sound from Mike vehicle, then after that, I listened to the air coming out of the former judge of the Family Court, Ms. Cynthia Pitts.

“How many of your tyres were damaged?”
Ashford Baizar
“Two of them.”
The culprit then moved further up the street to a van that was parked on the other side of the pavement.

“How many of your tyres were slashed?”
Frank Flowers
“Two, the front and the back on different sides of the vehicle.”
Jacqueline Woods
“How much is this costing you?”
Frank Flowers
“I guess about forty of fifty dollars, with the transportation to get it fix and transport it back and pay the fellow heisting it up.”
It took the police about five minutes to reach the neighbourhood, but by that time, the damage had already been done and the suspect had disappeared. The residents say they don’t know what to do to protect their vehicles and expressed different views on whether more police patrols are needed.
Ashford Baizar
“Well we have very good patrol in this neighbourhood, due to the police station that is right at the corner of Dean Street and West Street. But the incident is so fast that not even the police patrol would help, because it’s just by split second you know.”
Frank Flowers
“Especially the environment we live in, we definitely need more police patrol in the neighbourhood. Because it’s an environment that everything occur in this neighbourhood.”
Jacqueline Woods
“And at this time you all don’t know who’s doing it?”
Frank Flowers
“No. Our neighbours said that they saw a madman, but so far, we have never investigated to that point. But we’ll get around to it.”
