Party Politics and Water Bill Collection in Seine Bight
Is party politics being played with the collection of water bills in Seine Bight Village? According to Stann Creek West Area Representative Rodwell Ferguson, he had approached Junior Minister of Rural Development Frank Mena a year ago to address the issue of collection. Today, he told the House that the chairman of Belize Water Services Limited, upon finding out that the appointed agent is a supporter of the People’s United Party, intervened in the matter. Ferguson says that there has since been no collecting agent in Seine Bight.

“Last year, I guess around this time, I made a request to the then Minister of Rural Development about an agent to collect water bills in the village of Seine Bight. He promised me that one week later something would be arranged. It’s more than a year past now and nothing has been arranged. I was in the village last week and I was told that the chairman identified an agent to collect these bills, but the chairman of BWS set out to investigate if the agent is P.U.P. or U.D.P. and when he found out that the agent was P.U.P., he said P.U.P. must not eat. And so as of today, there is no agent collecting water bills for the poor people of Seine Bight.”
