Sister of Hubert Tillett says he was tortured before his murder
There are disturbing details arising out of the recent murder of Hubert Tillett in a secluded area of Hattieville. Tillett was found in a dug out pool in his yard last Friday and initial reports were that he his throat was slit. There was little official information on the state of the body, but Tillett’s sister, Lydia Tillett-Kinnard, contacted News Five, with information suggesting that his death was even more horrific than it appeared. She says her brother was tortured before he was killed.

“What I know about Hubert’s death, my brother, that he was tortured. I know that he had just sold a property and was supposed to be coming back to California in three weeks.”

“There were no reports locally that he was tortured. How is it that you know that?”

“How is it that I know that? I know that because I was told that they cut off his fingers. I was told by a close person that I know that his fingers were cut off and he was burnt and he was killed.”
Delahnie Bain
“Do you know if he had any kind of problems with any one at all?”

“No one. The only thing that I can think of is that in 1990 his son was abducted and killed in California.”

“What came out of that?”

“They never found the killer and they never found anything. No, no absolutely nothing. Even up to this day, they have over a hundred thousand dollar reward for whosoever knows about the killers, nothing! And now there is my brother.”

“So you feel that the two incidents may be linked?”

“That’s the only thing I can suspect because my brother, he was such a good person. He would give and every time he would come to the US, they would rob him. Every time he would come to the US he was robbed at gun point, his phone was taken away and we didn’t want him to go back but he did go back because he loved that country, he loved my country or our country.”
This evening, Corporal Jerome Bermudez of the Hattieville Police Station could not confirm the allegations of missing fingers and scorches made by Tillett’s sister. He did say, however, that Tillett died from partial decapitation.
According to Tillett-Kinnard, Hubert is the second brother that has been murdered in Belize and it has been difficult to cope with the loss.

“My brother would take the shirt off his back to give to you if you needed it. That’s the kind of brother he was. Anything you wanted he would give and sometimes he would even ask—if you say I love your shirt or I love whatever he has on and he would say oh you like it? Here. That’s the kind of brother I had. Oh my God, I can barely think. I can’t sleep. I can’t sleep at night; I get up crying. I’m driving and I’m crying. He was such a good brother. He was the brother that was like a father to me. He was the brother that gave me away on my wedding day. He was the brother that bought me my first vehicle. Like I said, he was the brother that would give not only of himself, but would give for us to better ourselves. I don’t know how much I can bear. This is the second brother that I’m losing. The first one the police killed in Belmopan. They beat the living daylights out of him; Daniel Tillett. They cracked his skull and then they had the audacity to say that he died in his vomit and he didn’t. Well, I thank God that we pushed for that one and they finally got him.”
Tillett’s widow, Ruth, who resides in California, is coming to Belize to take Hubert’s body back to the States, where he is expected to be cremated.
