Innocent victim shot in drive-by

Story Picture
Things got even scarier on the following night in Belize City. This time the motive wasn’t robbery, and the gun was used to harm rather than threaten. Trouble is, the victim was not the intended target. At her request, we have hidden her face from the screen.

Jacqueline Woods, Reporting

Police say they do not believe the bullet was meant for twenty-one year old Shian Tillett. But that doesn’t make her wound any less painful. Tillett was shot while standing on her veranda on Euphrates Avenue. She was talking to a young man known as “Yellow” who was at her gate, when a car drove up. A man known to her only as “Bumper” began shooting in their direction.

Shian Tillett, Shooting Victim

“A car drove up really slowly and took about a minute or two before the car door behind the driver’s seat open. When it did, a young man pushed out his body and I just heard the shot when off. I held my chest and fell on the veranda.”

Tillett says she recalled hearing another gunshot fired at “Yellow”, but by this time he had fled the scene. Tillett was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where she received treatment for a bullet wound to her right upper chest.

“The bullet is still inside me, between my bones and I still have pain in my right shoulder. But I have taken an x-ray and I’ll take it back to the doctor and they’ll see when they can operate on me to have the bullet removed.”

Although police did not find any expended shells, they strongly suspect Tillett was shot with a point twenty-five pistol. According to authorities, the incident was the result of a dispute between the two young men. Jacqueline Woods reporting for News 5.

“Bumper”, whose proper name is Daniel Faber, has been detained by police pending charges.
