Artist exhibits at Commercial Centre

“Nothing fancy, just the best.” It’s the slogan of a Belize City meat shop, but could also apply to an artist now exhibiting at the Commercial Centre. This morning News 5’s Jacqueline Woods had a look.

Thirty-seven year old Eduardo “Papo” Alamilla is considered the pride of San Pedro. The artist who has been painting since he was fifteen years old, has steadily grown in popularity over the past twenty years.

Eduardo “Papo” Alamilla, Artist

“I have been painting for a long time and little has changed in my style of painting. I try to paint a variety of cultural things. That’s what I dedicate myself to do. I feel I have inherited my talent to paint because I understand that my grandmother was also a painter.”

Today, “Papo” has displayed a number of pieces he considers among his best. The exhibition, Claroscuro, which is only in its second day, has been well received by the public.

Carlos Bardalez, Friend of the Artist

“The response has been great. People have been coming and it is a great success for the first day. We’ve brought twenty-two pieces, and of that we have sold seventeen pieces.”

The exhibition, which is being hosted on the second floor of the Commercial Centre, will run through February fifteenth. Jacqueline Woods reporting for News 5.
