Don’t Wait to Report a Missing Person!

Alejandro Cowo

There are at least seven other persons reported as missing across the country. In respect of an ostensible increase, the police department has come forward to inform the public that a report can be filed at any time, without having to wait for a forty-eight-hour period to elapse before doing so.

ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City

“It is of paramount importance for the police that whenever there is a missing person report or whenever any loved one is missing, that you do not need to wait for anytime to report the matter to the police.  There is no immediate time or specific time for you to report a missing person, that can be done five or ten after that you have not seen the person and we encourage that the best time for you to report it is as soon as you are aware of it and do not wait one or two or three days to see if the person will come back. We have had several missing persons where the families of the missing have been coming three or four days after reporting the person [missing], causing a lot of delay for us to actually start to look to track the person where he was last seen and other things.  So we advise the public that if you know your family members is missing, do not hesitate or waste time.”
