A Christmas Message from the Anglican Diocese to You

The joy of Christmas is being able to spend time with family and friends.  The spirit of the season is rooted in the celebration of the birth of Christ, a time of year when caring and sharing is at the heart of Yuletide.  Earlier today, Bishop Phillip Wright of the Anglican Diocese shared with us an important Christmas message which focused on the true meaning of Christmas.

“I suppose you try to centre on the essentials of the message and especially at Christmas, for instance, where the message is really about the fact that God made a move like never before to enter human history and by so doing has provided us now with an image of God that we cannot sort of easily dismiss.  And so to get people to understand that it’s more than just a baby in manger, it’s more than just wise men, it’s more than just the little frills and thrills we’ve attached to the story.  There is something very important here that the eternal God, this all-loving creator of the universe made a decision to enter human history like never before and he did it in a manner that’s truly remarkable.  He didn’t come down as a fully grown man; he didn’t come down with all knowledge.  He literally came into this world, decided to come into this world the way you and I do, through a woman, vulnerable and weak and I can’t help but think that by so doing, God is telling us something about who he is and how much he wants to relate to humankind and to have a relationship with us that is not so much “I am up here and you are down here.”  I have come and I have lived your life, I have experienced life the way you do and therefore we can now have a more genuine and authentic relationship.  I think that’s one of the best messages we could have and if we could then incorporate that into our daily lives and try our best to live that out throughout the year, constantly reminding ourselves that God loves us so much that he would do this.  Hey, the least I can do is to try and live for him.”
