Bananas: No longer a scarce fruit?

Story Picture
Since the banana industry was crippled after Hurricane Iris wiped out plantations down south, the fruit has been a scarcity on the local market. But for banana lovers everywhere, including some members of our staff, there is some good news to report. We managed to find a good supply of bananas at the Queen’s Square Market. While they were camera shy, vendors tell News 5 that for the past couple of months there was a shortage of the fruit, but today their suppliers started delivering to the market by the cratefulls. But, consumers should note that because supplies may be limited, the cost has gone up a bit. The days of eight to ten bananas for one dollar, have been replaced by five for a buck. According to one supplier, bananas should be available for the rest of the year at most markets. It is estimated that it will take several more months before banana production will be back in full swing.
