Belize City Stabbing Victim Recovering at K.H.M.H.
Last Friday, we reported on the stabbing that left forty-three-year-old cab driver Stephen Leiva hospitalized. He was stabbed outside of his room near the Bel China Bridge in the early hours of Friday morning when a woman asked to use his restroom. As we showed you on Friday, Leiva’s family thinks that he was set up by the woman. But today, police are saying that there is no evidence to suggest that.
ASP Alejandro Cowo, O.C., C.I.B., Belize City
“What police has gathered so far is that Mr. Leiva was at his residence when he was called out by a female. The female asked to use the latrine and when she was going there accompanied by Mr. Leiva, he was attacked by someone who inflicted the stab wounds to him. He is admitted in a stable condition at this moment. The female who was detained was subsequently released because of insufficient evidence up to this time.”
Andrea Polanco
“The family is claiming that set Mr. Leiva up. She asked to use the restroom and then she had those two persons just lying in wait. Is there anything at all to indicate that she may have been part of that collusion?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“Well, at this time there is nothing to indicate that she was part of that but she was detained and questioned and we are following up on information that we are receiving at this moment likewise.”
Andrea Polanco
“So, you don’t have any suspects right now?”
ASP Alejandro Cowo
“No. We don’t have any suspects.”
Leiva is now listed in a stable condition.
