Real Verdes blow out Acros Bombers

Story Picture
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’re in tuned with this latest serving of Sports Monday. Week eleven of this Regent’s Cup Tournament found Acros Brown Bombers in defence of the barracks here in Belize City against who else, Acros Real Verdes of San Ignacio. Okay, we’ll call it the battle of stoves, but there was very little cooking in first half play.

In fact, it was some twenty minutes in when Orlando Jimenez is fouled right on top of the eighteen. Brian Lisbey takes off the subsequent spotkick, Orlando Jimenez goes to the left foot and the Acros stove from Cayo lights up the scoreboard.

The city Acros looks for the reply from Jermaine Zuniga, but Darren Hinds pulls off an aerial show.

It’s more firepower from the Acros Bombers, but Darren Hinds stands firm. Brian Lisbey then tests the Acros keeper with this long-range missile, but he passes with flying colours and at the half Verdes with the 1-nil lead.

In second half, Davu Rodriguez serves up this beauty for Zuniga, but the striker cannot deliver. Martin Nolberto then feeds the Bombers attack off this spotkick, but again it simply creates excitement and the action picks up.

Aaron Locario attacks off the right wing and fires with the left foot, but the Verdes keeper saves with a finger touch. Again, it’s Locario on the move, this time he centres into the danger zone. The keeper fumbles, so Orlando Jimenez goes for the one eighty away from him and the ball crashes into an empty net for the 2-zip Verdes lead.

Verdes smells victory, so they go for goal number three, but for Aaron Locario, it’s not to be.

To be of course, a goal scorer which suits Brian Lisbey just fine as his bullet puts Verdes up 3-zip.

Here’s another Bombers defensive mistake only this time they get away with it. Still, the Bombers remains competitive and this set off the spotkick from Martin Nolberto should have been converted, but it wasn’t.

Of course, Brian Lisbey must have been contented with one goal, because here he certainly looks different on this move. Still, the Bombers do set on the scoreboard when Tyrone Muschamp swings this left foot past a diving Darren Hinds. Maybe had the Bomber scored right here after that first goal, they could have found real momentum to take them into a tie, but Acros Verdes goes on to win in a 3-1 blast.

In other results from around the league, Builders Hardware Bandits beat Lazio F.C. 1-zip. Kulture Yabra got over Corozal F.C. 1-nil. Griga United clobbered San Pedro F.C. 3-1, while Juventus Stars jolted Jacintoville in a 1-zip blast down south at Toledo.

Meanwhile folks, Associacion Deportiva Carmelita from Costa Rica will be in town for two friendlies. On Friday the eighteenth January, they will face sub-champion Builder Hardware Bandits at Belmopan. And on January twentieth, they come to the M.C.C. Grounds where they will be tested by the defending semi-pro champions, Kulture Yabra of Belize City. See you there.
