Evan Neal Still Missing; Family Says Disappearance is Not Drug Related

Evan Neal

And what of Evan Neal? Well, forty-eight-year old Neal is the owner of Mapp Caye and veteran seaman. His family describes him as a diver and hard-working man, whom they say didn’t dabble in the drug business. They say he was to return home on Friday evening after he dropped off groceries for the two caretakers on his caye. His brother reports that the last time they had contact was around eleven that morning and they know that he arrived safely at the island. But what happened afterwards is anyone’s guess.  As we’ve said Neal and Reneau have not been found since and his other employee Edinio Humes was shot and killed. Today we spoke with Neal’s fiancée off camera and she also refutes any involvement of drugs.

Voice of: Kay Jenkins, Fiancée of Evan Neal

“He left Friday after saying he was going to caye. He was wearing a three-quarter pants and white shirt.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, he was just going to Mapp Caye for the day? Was he scheduled to come back the same day?”

Voice of: Kay Jenkins

“Yes. He had left saying he was going to drop off some groceries for the workmen and he was supposed to come back in the evening to do some errands for me but he never came back. I called his phone but it went straight to voicemail.”

Andrea Polanco

“So, when he left from home that Friday morning – did you have any sort of communication with him during the day?”

Voice of: Kay Jenkins

“No. None at all. He was doing some errands in the City and then he left about 10. I know his brother spoke with him about eleven out at caye and that was the last communication his family had with him. If he had changed his mind he would have called and say that he would not have been here. Normally sometimes he might not answer his phone but he would return the call and his phone is never off for this long.”

Andrea Polanco

“Are you concerned right now that something may have happened to him?”

Voice of: Kay Jenkins

“Yes, very concerned that is why we are trying to gather some search party to go out and look for him.”

Andrea Polanco

“Do you fear the worse for him?”

Voice of: Kay Jenkins

“At this time we are just praying and hoping for the best because we are children of God and we are seeking and hoping that God answers our prayers and he will come back safely to us.”

Andrea Polanco

“He owns that caye – so this is an area that he travels by boat all the time. It is not likely that he would get lost or get stranded out at sea?”

Voice of: Kay Jenkins

“No. No. None at all.  He has been out sea all his life, so it is not likely that would happen because he knows out there like the back of the palm of his hands.”

Andrea Polanco

“Police said that a number of similar attacks have been happening on cayes out there. They suspect that it is drug related – but your family is refuting that claim?”

Voice of: Kay Jenkins

“That is right. This has nothing to do with drugs. My husband doesn’t do anything with drugs. From what I have gathered it has nothing to do with that.”

Andrea Polanco

“Is there anything at all that you could think about that would cause him not to come home?”

Voice of: Kay Jenkins

“Not at this time, no. We are just praying for his safe return and hoping that wherever he is that he is not hurt and that he comes back to us.”

As you heard in the interview, two boats, Speedy Inn and Shannon, are missing along with a boat engine. Neal was last seen wearing a three quarter pants and white shirt. He is described as medium built, one hundred and fifty pounds, five feet five inches in height, has dark complexion and is of a Creole-East Indian descent. If you have any information on Neal’s whereabouts you are asked to call the authorities immediately.
