A New N.G.O. to Focus on the I.C.J.

A new N.G.O. has been formed, primarily for the I.C.J.  It is called Citizens for the Defence of Sovereignty and one of its members is Assad Shoman, a YES proponent for the I.C.J.  Shoman issued a release today to say that the objective is to “embrace and promote the concept of sovereignty of peoples and the struggle for freedom, justice and equality as integral and necessary components thereof.” Shoman also writes that the N.G.O. was birthed because two major political parties have conflicting positions and the people are being bombarded with wrong information to create fear and confusion.  The organization says that Guatemala’s claim to Belize has been a heavy weight before and after independence, continuously exacting a heavy price through the massive destruction of our natural resources, causes division and threatens sovereignty by the Guatemalan armed forces. The C.D.S. will be undertaking a country-wide initiative to explain to Belizeans about the claim and achieve secure and recognised borders with Guatemala based on the 1859 Treaty. The release ends with an appeal for financial contributions.
